Soda ash

About product

Soda ash (sodium carbonate Na2CO3) is a waterless condition is a colorless crystalline powder that is produced in Russia by the Solvay method, as well as by complex nepheline concentrates processing.

Soda ash is very soluble in water – the solvent constitutes 17.7% by weight at 20°C, and at 100°C it can be 31.3%. Aqueous soda solution has alkaline reaction due to the salt hydrolysis.

Applications

Soda ash is a major chemical products and is mainly used as a charge stock component in glass production, in soap and other cleaning products, as well as in caustic soda and other sodium salt production (for example, Na2B4O7). Sodium carbonate is widely used for metal degreasing and purification, desulfurization of pig iron and for bauxite processing in aluminum production. The compound is also used in pulp making, tanning, boiler water softening and in the neutralization of acid compounds in the refining of oil products.

Packing, shipping and storage

Soda ash is packed in 40-kg paper bags, 800-kg (dense soda ash) or 650-kg (light soda ash) plastic big-bags, 25-kg (light soda ash) polypropylene bags, 700-kg (light soda ash) or 1000-kg (dense soda ash) big bags.

Soda ash is transported in bulk by soda tank cars and covered hoppers; by rail – in gondolas or closed cars; by sea – in 20 and 40-feet containers.
